About Bachman Hebble Funeral Home

Mr. Hebble ran the business from its inception in 1909 until his death in 1953, at which time he bequeathed the business to Francis R. “Tommie” Thomas, a long-time employee since 1912. When Mr. Thomas passed away in 1967, the business passed to Richard R. Bachman. Mr. Bachman had started his career as an apprentice in 1939, eventually becoming the owner and president until his death in 1995. Richard’s son Fred joined the business in 1980 and following his father’s death, purchased the stock from the estate and became owner and president until his retirement in 2021.

On June 30, 2021, Fred Bachman sold the business to Lexie Stygar. Lexie had been an integral part of the funeral home for twelve years prior to the sale. As sole owner, Lexie now employs numerous support staff and receptionists who exemplify kindness and mutual respect for community families, continuing the legacy began by Mr. Hebble.

The funeral firm has always been locally owned and operated. Originally, the firm was located at 44 West Main Street (now called W. Michigan Avenue). Hebble’s then relocated to the corner of West Michigan Avenue and Carlyle Street in 1914. For 74 years, the Hebble Funeral Service.
